Author Guidelines

What we publish

We welcome original empirical and theoretical work in science education, curriculum studies, educational technology and educational measurement. Quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods studies are all considered on equal terms.

We have a particular interest in research grounded in African educational contexts, and in work that addresses teaching and learning under real resource constraints.

• Research articles — original empirical studies (5,000–8,000 words)
• Review articles — systematic or critical reviews of a defined literature (6,000–10,000 words)
• Case studies — in-depth analysis of a programme, intervention or setting (3,000–6,000 words)
• Short communications — concise reports of focused findings (2,000–3,500 words)
• Book reviews — critical reviews of recent scholarly books (1,000–2,000 words)

Manuscript preparation

Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) format, double-spaced, in a 12-point serif typeface, with continuous line numbering.

• Title page — title, all authors with full given and family names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers where held, and the corresponding author's email. This page is removed before review.
• Abstract — 150–250 words, unstructured, stating purpose, method, principal findings and conclusion.
• Keywords — four to six, chosen for discoverability rather than novelty.
• Main text — introduction, literature, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion.
• References — APA 7th edition. Include DOIs where available.
• Tables and figures — numbered, captioned, and referred to in the text. Supply figures at a minimum of 300 dpi.

Names and ORCID

Please give each author's given name and family name separately, spelled exactly as they should appear in the citation record. This matters more than it may appear: these fields feed Google Scholar, reference managers and — in due course — DOI registration, and a name entered incorrectly will propagate into the permanent citation record.

We strongly encourage all authors to register for an ORCID identifier and supply it with the submission. ORCID disambiguates authors with similar names and connects your publications across the scholarly record.

Ethical requirements

Studies involving human participants must confirm institutional ethical approval and informed consent. All submissions are screened for textual similarity. Please read our Publication Ethics policy in full before submitting.

How to submit

Email your manuscript, as a single .docx file, to the editorial address of the journal you are submitting to. You will receive acknowledgement of receipt within five working days.

Include in the body of your email: the manuscript title, the article type, the corresponding author's full contact details, and a statement that the work is original and not under consideration elsewhere.
